About us

1974 is the year of foundation of Ex Libris s.r.l., characterized since 1991 by the management of the D'Aniello family. Today, Emidio and Leone remain at the helm, after the death of Maria Pia in 2022.

During all these years the Company has had a constant presence on the antiquarian market with the publication of numerous catalogs of ancient books and cartography, participation in international exhibitions and the management of a large bookstore located in the heart of the city of Rome: the historic Libreria di via dell'Umiltà.

Our best presentation is therefore constituted by the work carried out during the course of many years of activity and by the satisfaction of our customers including passionate private collectors, libraries in Italy and abroad and public institutions.

Looking to the future, the goal is to increase the study and research of books, maps and ancient and rare engravings, also counting on the choice, decided at the beginning of 2025, to move the headquarters of the Bookshop to the central Ludovisi-Sallustiano district, a territorial location far from the chaos and intrusive tourist curiosities now increasingly found in the Trevi Fountain area.

These are however the main constants that have characterized and still are the basis of the activity and the criteria that inspire our work:

  • Priority research (where possible) of first editions or at least editions published during the life of the Authors of the proposed works.
  • In-depth examination of each work before putting it on sale, in order to obtain rigorous descriptions of the copies offered through our website and other online sales channels.
  • Constant enrichment of the offer, favoring quality, state of conservation and provenance.
  • Absolute adherence to the ethical and behavioral standards established by the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB-LILA) of which Ex Libris is a member through the Association of Italian Antiquarian Booksellers (ALAI).

Ex Libris is a limited liability company registered in the REA of the Rome Chamber of Commerce with number RM391045 and has a share capital of €69,000.00.
